Though i like to browse these forums they are in no way an accurate real world data base when it comes to product reliability. The MOCO abuses every aspect of bike development to ensure reliability. Your experience imo is probably the norm when it comes to compensator wear. Looks like you have many many miles left on it.

His comp already failed once - I'd call that normal. We're looking at the chain tensioner and you really can't tell how much it's worn unless you take it out. Grooves are hidden by the chain. Will show mostly on the forward edge if any.

The comp was replaced at 15k but was not needed. I had a knocking sound on decel at around 2500 rpms when cold during the first 5 minutes of riding to work and then first 5 minutes leaving work 10 hours later. The service advisor immediately said "oh it's your compensator" and didn't want to hear anything else. "We see that allllll the time! We can knock that out for ya right now!"

Long story short, didn't make a lick of difference in pursuit of the noise. 4 dealerships later with no resolution, I said screw it, I'll keep riding till it gets worse or grenades. It's under warranty. About 3-4k later, it went away on its own and never came back, never presented any issues, never any metal in any of the fluid.

As for grooves in the shoes, if you look closely at the photos, the chain across the shoes are pretty much level all the way across. If there were heavy grooves, the chain would be set down into the grooves. As for the presence of "any" groove such as one at 0.005" deep, then yeah I wouldn't see it with the chain still in place. However, failures that I see from previous generations have the chain half way down into the shoe. 0.500" (half an inch deep, down to the chain side plate rivets)

So at 70k miles, I think it looks dandy!

On a roller type chain, once the links groove in, the rollers roll. It will never wear after that. Same for the cam chains once Harley went to the roller chain in there.
Mabe at 100K, if you were in there, should replace it since Delrin gets brittle in time from the constant hot oil bath.

I think what most will find with the internet is you generally only hear of bad experiences that people have rather than the good ones.
Much as our news. They only talk about the negative crap hardly ever the good stuff.
