Any chance you have a worn lifter bore & that one lifter is having trouble getting up to pressure?

If so they make oversize lifters.

My tuner that did the lifters (and all my work) is Dan Thayer, not sure if you've heard of him or not, but he's a pretty big deal in the bike world. He does the tuning and builds for the Perowitz family, he tuned Jody's bike that she set the land speed record on. If there was a worn bore, he'd have found it.

I recognize the name, not questioning anyone's ability.

I'm just saying when you run out of things it can be, you start looking at things that "can't".

Good luck.

Do you still have the stock camplate? Sorry if this has already been asked.

That I couldn't tell you, I didn't do the cam swap and can't remember what all was replaced a few years ago when I had my guy do the cams.

Oh no prob, I didn't mean to insinuate you were. Just saying the work that's been done has been done by a veteran Harley mechanic so I'm sure it was checked when I did the lifters.

Have you tried using a stethoscope to pin the noise down to a particular area? Stethoscope is not really necessary. When I wrenched cars I would just use a long handled screw driver and hold the handle against my ear to listen for the knock or tapping noise. Sure saved a lot of time that way.
good luck......Mike

I have read all the replies and don't believe any one mentions the fuel management. Did you check the fuel management? Just thinking out of the box. Maybe on start up even on what we called "hot engine", the engine is cool enough to trick the computer to believes the engine is cold so it would give a cold start up program and cause the noise.

Good Luck, hope you figure it out...
