Default In need of shocks and advice

I am looking for a set of shocks for my FLHTK.
I am 300lbs and the wife is 125lbs

I would love ohlins or progressives, but a little out of my price range. We are taking a 700 mile trip in two weeks and was wondering if there were any other good alternatives.

Thanks

If the Progressives are out of the budget, suck it up and keep saving. I haven't read about anything cheaper than them being a substantial improvement over the factory shocks. Buy once, cry once and you'll be happier in the end and actual save money.

425 pounds Before any Luggage - will max out most any set up that is Not Built Just for YOU - I went with Works performance - for Me better CS than the others mentioned in your post.

In my memory, lol In talking to and building my shocks... It was explained to me that at best - our full length shocks have a 3" travel - with that, they are BEST when our total weights rides in the 'Sweet spot' of that 3" = Not much and very hard to actually do.. IF tOO stiff, the shock is always at the top and hard,, TOO SOFT and it bottoms out way to easy,,,,

At your weight I recommend Progressive 444s with the Super Duty (165#/210#) springs. You can probably get a set in the $500 range. Progressive's supposedly Heavy Duty springs won't be enough for you. At my 230#s the Super Duties work with no preload added but they are just a touch stiff.

I have a set of 13 5/16" Ohlins that I am going to be listing. They only have about 50 miles on them. The only reason I didn't like them is they took the street glide up a little too far for my liking. They were built for me at 240 and the wife at 145 so they are valved close to your specs. You can PM me if you're interested.

Have you considered upgrading to an air suspension set up?

If a diet and loosing some weight isn't an option Then I would bite the bullet and go ohlins. At 430lbs combined no out of the box shock will check all the boxes. At 430lbs you are close to passing the maximum weight allowed on the bike and that's with no luggage at all. With luggage the bike will be past its limit.

I am 275, wife is 105. That gives me 380 - then, I have to add my luggage. I carry a trunk bag for the rain gear and a few other things. In addition, I pack for 3 days when I travel. Saddlebags have jackets, tool kit and a few things.

In September, I went with the Progressive 944 in the rear plus progressives in the front. Riding season was all but over - so far, I have about 4000 miles on the shock.

Stopped by the dealer this AM, told them the bike felt a little loose. They checked the rear shocks - both were leaking.

Covered under warranty- so, they are ordering me a new set - but upgrading to the super. Said they had never seen both of these leak.
