None of them are welded. They are pressed together. I think that change started in 03 models.

this is what i thought to, but i just came from a dealer and one of his techs told me that the flywheels have been welded since the 103 came out. i think these people are so full of crap, but i was giving him the benefit of doubt because i havn'e had one apart.

That's one of the main reasons I never trust my maintenance to a dealership. Always use an indy.

Watch this video on the strength of welded cranks. They are very over rated. This is part 2 of 3 but this is where they test the welds. Very interesting.

News Flash there was never anything wrong with the cranks. After market started a rumor to build sales. On the net it went like wild fire still burning. My 07 was suppose to scissor the crank with in 10k. 75K on it when I traded it. Then my 2011 103 was suppose to d the same nope , then the 2013 the 2016 on and on.

Really ? tell that to several thousand owners who've had to eat scissored cranks after the warranty expired. Only reason HD changed the runout specs was to get out from under so many warranty claims on them. It was such an issue the new M8's have larger crankpins and press fit clearance was tightened up so try and get a handle on the halves moving.

And like others have told you in other posts you are not the all knowing experience for everyone that owns a harley. The pressed cranks can be a problem. The builders have it well documented. Ride them like a grandmother and your experience will be different than those that wick them up from time to time.
