Extended warranties?

I purchased an additional 5 years from Boardtracker, but... I do not think they make good sense if you don't put down miles. I put down 15-20k a year and with the cost for ANY repair on this new M8 I figure 1 repair and I will get my money back. If I rode like many and only did 2-4K a year, not sure I would buy an extended warranty.
They make money from all the bikes that sit in a garage, I hope my bike needs nothing ever in the next 7 years, but I expect to put on over 100k in the next 7 years. I wouldn't be surprised is something happens.

I did the 5 extra as well. With all the suspect things that can go wrong, i.e. compensator, spun crank, wheel bearings, infotainment issues, etc, I believe I'll come out money ahead. So far I have had the horn replaced and the clutch replaced for $50 each. I'm probably half way into the cost of the warranty and I have 4 years to go.
I agree it's not a great idea if you don't put on miles.

My only argument is with HD extended vs 3rd party extended.
HD's 1 year was almost $1500 and was into multiple thousand for more years.
My thoughts were if I needed $2K worth of warranty on a bike under 10K miles, its a piece o' crap.
I did buy one, but I bought a 3rd party that covers almost as much for 5 years. The downside, of course, is making sure the dealer or finding a indy that will take it.
I've already had to use it for the front wheel bearings.

I know this is heresy to say this here, but at my age and experience, I've about had it with Harley Corp's systematic "using and abusing" of their customer base. If this 2015 gives me any trouble, I can PROMISE you folks here, it will the LAST Harley I ever own.
I don't have a problem riding a Goldwing AT ALL!!!
But if Nissan built a Motorcycle, THAT'S what I would be riding!! LOL!

Ditto on the mileage being the main decision factor.
I have the 7 year (5 extended) bought through Kutter in 2012, used the tire portion once so far. Had no issues for 3 years/~30K miles. I had a radio issue and replacement at 40, a cruise control switch at 47K, a tranny issue at 55K (and had the dealer replace the belt while everything was apart (I had to pay for the belt only).
Tranny work would have been ~1600-2000, I paid 50 deductible. Guess where I am headed this afternoon! Warranty covered TPS cable issue. Not sure what this would cost but will be at least a breakeven for all the extended warranty costs. BUT -- I have 70K on the bike.
I do not consider this to be a "bad" bike, in fact just the opposite we have ridden in all kinds of ratty weather, long distance rides over multi weeks etc. and most of this stuff has been minor (excepting the tranny which was not failed, just making noise).
If I had 25K miles I doubt anything but the tire (maybe the radio) would have been an issue and thus the warranty would not be worth it from a dollar to dollar comparison perspective. However, the other thing is the piece of mind which has no tangible value. I like to know that if my motor does parts puke, I am not paying 4K after enjoying it for 6 years.
