Extended warranties?

I've purchased an ESP on several different bikes. Between the claims I've made and the refund I received (which I always found to be very fair) when I cancelled because of selling or trading the bike, I would say the ESPs haven't cost me a thing. I bought them because each bike was going to be the last bike I would ever buy and I was planning to put 150,000 miles on it in 7 years. If I knew I was going to trade or sell them in 2 or 3 years, I probably wouldn't have purchased an ESP. In other words, I think an ESP is a good bet if you're planning on riding a lot of miles.
For the lady with the trike that was mentioned in the original post. She'll make out okay, because the reverse motor in the trike is bound to fail, so she'll come out ahead.
Oh, and shop around, even if you have to call out of state. Prices are negotiable.

Seems to me like a water pump failure should be covered by warranty on a 2015 Ultra. For crying out loud, this has become a "it's going to happen" event as much as the now-famous shift shaft stripping.
Folks are buying warranties because mfgs won't back up their products. And Harley is almost forcing folks to buy them BECAUSE of all these well documented, design defect issues. That's ridiculous! The rates being quoted are basically telling you that you BETTER get a warranty, because we ( Harley ) know that these parts are going to fail, and we have to have your warranty money to cover OUR cost to replace them. And WE would rather YOU shoulder the burden of the cost than US having to use better quality parts in our mfg process.
WHAT A RIP_OFF!
Well, I'm tired of it folks. I will not be buying Harley again.

I purchased the Cornerstone 5 year with tire and wheel coverage for my 2015 limited. I plan on keeping this bike for a time. While on our way to Sturgis the water pump shorted out. Deluxe HD in Gillette, Wy took the coverage and I was out zero dollars. Coming home I noticed a bit of oil spotting on the rear fender. its now in the shop for a seal replacement and again zero dollars out of pocket. I don't know if I will ever break even with the cost but it is great piece of mind to know I have the coverage regardless of my location.

If I still have my Ultra Limited when the 2 year factory warranty is close to running out, I'll probably buy the extended.

just talked to jim and board tracker.. harleys 5 year is $2324 but the same contract without the harley badge on it is only $1348 for same 5 years and same coverage. $1000 diffference just for the harley badge to be printed on the page. typical HD sticking it to the customer

The 5 year Harley ext warranty for $2334 is what Harley asks the dealers to sell it for.
The $1348 is a 5 year ext warranty that Boardtracker HD, and possibly some other businesses, sell and it is the same exact insurance company that is underwriting the policy is some cases.
The difference in quotes you are seeing is the extra money that the dealer is making, OVER and ABOVE what they would normally make. In other words, the dealers are shafting you! Finance and Insurance ( F&I ) as it's called in the Auto business is a HUGE profit center, and Harley is a master at maximizing those opportunities.
