Default Primary chain

I have a 2014 Limited, on a recent 2000 mile trip it began to make a loud knocking noise, tracked it down to the primary. Removed the outer primary cover and the chain adjuster was bottomed out (no tension on the chain). I believe that the chain slapping was the cause of my knock. Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

25,000. Changed the tensioner, did help some but the knock is still there.

I have 34k on my 2015 Ultra Limited Low and the compensator sprocket just got replaced because of a loud knocking noise. When service was in there to change the compensator sprocket, I had them look at the primary chain tensioner to see if there was any wear or issues with it but they said all was good. Which I was quite surprised. The bike is quiet now but just got it back and only have about 30 miles on it.

I have 11K on my 2016 Ultra Limited. Recently began hearing rattling, clunking, etc. The compensator was bad and the dealer replaced it under warranty.

That's a new one. If anything, the OEM tensioner can over-tighten the chain. The spring in it must have broken or something. I put a Baker Attitude Adjuster manual tensioner in my '15 Limited the day I bought it. Problem(s) solved.

finally someone else with the same problem I have 14 Street Glide with 60000 miles and its been knocking for some time, I took it to the dealer a month ago only for them to tell me that's a normal sound. This thing knocks like you wouldn't believe I try to keep the idle up when I stop so it doesn't do it as bad. the noise is coming from the clutch area not the front where comp is. I know they didn't pull the outer primary to check they said that Corporate office said that the noise is normal, not sure what to do now. Please post back if you find a solution to your problem.

Take it to another dealer because that dealer sucks. Do you have an extended service plan? If so it is covered under that.

That dealer "tech" is an ignorant hack, same as most of 'em. It's almost certainly the compensator. Try an indie with a good rep, he'll fix it right up. Or get a manual and do it yourself. Not a hard job at all if you take your time and follow the instructions exactly.

After riding the bike some, the knocking is a lot quieter but still there. Going to take it to an indy and let him listen to it.
