The answer is... You can't without a computer. Sure you can delete waypoints in the Boom... Good luck with that.

Route planning on the Boom GPS is pretty simple and yes you can change it on the fly by adding points to an existing route if you desire.

I don't get all the bitching about it. I ran an entire 4000 mile trip with it and didn't have any issues.

Yes, but then you'd have to read the manual or something, so....

It amazes me when folks who decry the Boom GPS as complete garbage support their position with declarations of things it won't do (miles to destination, estimated arrival time, etc.) that it WILL, in fact, do. Seems to me reading the manual would solve an awful lot of complaints.

But I could be wrong, who knows....

Your phone doesn't need any data connectivity at all to get its location.

Correct if the map has been downloaded it works like a GPS but what are you going to do in the rain. Cell phones were also not designed to deal with vibrations like you get on the bars of a Harley either. I keep my phone in the saddle bag or my pocket.

Not entirely true... your phone needs to ping SOMETHING. If it sees a wifi signal, it can use that. But it doesn't just inherently "know" where you are.

I used GARMIN GPS products for decades.
I switched to the HD Boom Box NAV.
I like the connectivity to the Boom Box system. And I'd prefer as little as possible added to the handlebars.
The issue I had was giving up my collection of waupoints when I moved from Basecamp to HD Ride Planner.
I'm now using Tyre which allows me to store waypoints.
It's nice clean software.
Kind of like Google Maps with a Basecamp like GUI.

Phones have GPS receivers in them. They do not require network services to acquire a fix.

Yep. Tyre is the way to go for sure. I use it to create routes and then upload them to CoPilot.

My last FOUR phones have been waterproof out from the factory. If you have a dinosaur phone then you can buy a waterproof case I suppose. Even iPhones of the latest generation are waterproof.

Vibrations? You are grasping for straws, my friend. It is a non-issue.

I see there are plenty of folks that love the Boom and that is great. I am of the camp that it is a terribly designed and terribly implemented and not of this era's technology. The truth is that it is clunky and awkward to use and there are better options. I've tried Boom and given it a fair shot before saying this. The fact that almost every line of text on the damn thing is truncated leaving you wondering what the last two thirds of what you are trying to read says a lot!

Have any of you that use tried CoPilot? Honest question.

True... I always thought differently, so I Googled it, and you're right. But what they don't have is WAAS.

I know when I've used my iPhone in the past, I have had periods where it "lost" me. Personally, I'll stick with the Boom! unit.
