Default Catostropfic rear wheel bearing failure

Bearing failed with literally no indication until abs light came on. When I stopped and inspected I found the abs wire hanging down an kinda melted. Removed bags and wholly smoke. The rear wheel had shifted to the right and the rotor spokes were being ground by the brake caliper and bracket. Got so hot melted all the paint off caliper and bracket. The swing arm also saw extreme heat. Dealer believes the will have to replace wheel, brakes rotor, abs cable, and swing arm. I feel lucky I didn't go down. By the way my dealer traveled 140 miles to come get me and the bike. Awesome treatment by chesters grand Teton Harley. Thanking my lucky stars for extended warranty. Bike had 24k on the clock. 2015 FLHTK

cheapest vendor. When Harley can save $2.23 per bike, they'll go for it.

Holy smokes! That kind of failure is scary!! Good thing you have that warranty!

My front bearings crapped out at 22k. Rears are still holding together for now...

Sounds like 20K is a good time to replace them. Any alternatives to the HD Chinree bearings?

Anything wrong with replacing them when you replace your tires? Seems to me that would be a good thing.

The European made SKF or *** bearing used to be a quality product. Those places have probably sold out to the Chinese by now. That's a scary situation and doesn't sound like you got any warning.
