Actually, I was surprised. I've been doing business with that dealership for 4 years and had the impression that they take great care in their shop and do an above average job.....I guess not.
When the service guy began talking about "sun spots" and weather's negative affect on recieveing 50,000 watt local FM radio stations...I remineded him that I'm a commercial pilot and know about weather (not everything but a lot) So I pointed out the current "blue sky" day and that there was no notification from any weather reporting body of "sun spots".
Anyway something good did come out out this experience.....I now know how to remove and install the front fairing......lol......

Yep, at one point I was concerned with the lousy AM reception, but since I usually only listen to FM (or XM in my car) it wasn't a big issue. But once the FM began to crap out I had to deal with it until the issue was resloved.
I should also mention that after I removed the front fairing and was poking around the numerous wires, connectors and plugs, I discovered 2 connectors that were not fully "click locked" together. I don't know what they're for but I pushed them together until I heard the "click". I doubt if they could have worked themselves loose IF they were properly connected in the first place. I guess the lesson learned is....it never hurts to look at everything under the covers. (lol....a great rainy day activity)

All my radio static issues on my 2016 FLHXS were from the hidden antenna. After having the dealer install it before driving away with it within 3 days I was having station issues. The tech said there was nothing wrong with it. Maybe a loose connection. I brought it back 3 more times and there was always nothing wrong with it. I had them reinstall my original antenna as a test. No more issues, so they replaced the hidden antenna with yet another one that didnt work after a week. I had them remove it and I moved my antenna to the lower rear mount and use a short stubby antenna and I dont have any issues at all. I now have 13K miles on it in over a year and not a single radio station issue. The hidden antenna was definitely the issue. There was another guy there with the same issue as I had on his new street glide as well. He had them remove it as well.

I don't have the hidden antenna....BUT I was told that IF I wanted one installed they would also need to install an "amplifier" of some sort. Since I didn't want a hidden antenna I never questioned it further.
I would all to check the 3 connections with the RADIO ON so you can hear if there are any issues when you "play" with the connections.
On the Ultra's there is one in the trunk, inside the fairing and behind the passenger seat.
