I never had a leak without the door but I started using it for peace of mind...98000 on the bike, never a drop, I will keep doing as I was for another 100000 miles I think.

I went out and cleaned it up. 1 drop on the ground, one on the plug and 1 hanging in front of the plug directly on the outer primary gasket......$HIT!

My Limited has over 100,000 miles and I've never needed to change a drain plug o-ring or use any type of thread sealant. No leaks to date.

I use a dab of that white Teflon based pipe dope. It doesn't hurt anything and it seems to protect the O-ring from getting pinched and torn.

I buy the o-ring kit, 3 small o-rings and a large derby cover o-ring, about $5 from the dealer. I change them all at every service and torque the 3 drain plugs down, about 20 ft. lb. if I remember. That doesn't feel tight enough but I've never had any leaks...no sealant or tape. Good luck!

i've got the same thing going on. 2015 SGS with about 8200 miles. i'll notice a drop under the primary drain plug every few days on the garage floor, and if i look underneath there will be drops hanging from the bottom of the primary cover. bottom of the bike if pretty oily/grimy when i run my hand along it. i checked it this morning after the bike has been parked since a several hundred mile ride on Sunday, and there were 3-4 spots on the floor. the oil seems to have a red tint to it. all i've done so far since purchasing the bike in Feb. is change the engine oil and filter using Amsoil.

new o-rings everytime and don't overtighten the plugs.. my brother had a leak at the primary drain plug and it turned out the dealer overtighten the plug and cracked the case while doing warrenty work. they sent it out the door anyway. they wouldn't take the blame and he had to pay for a new inner primary. we installed it.

Looks like mine is NOT the plug.

I cleaned it really well after a ride and the drip formed on the primary gasket.....
