Lighted Handlebar switches.. great fix/mod

I personally don't see the need...... especially if it involves a dealer touching my bike....

At a seminar last week I asked the chief mechanic at my dealership about switching the PTT to the other side....his reply was "not possible". I told him that on at least 2 forums the contributors have said their dealer service depts. had done just that via their programing software.....he still said "can't be done". Obviously I was in no position to debate the point since he's the "expert" and I was at his seminar and have no real understanding of his software capabilities. So, IF someone can explain how it's done I'll copy it and show him.

Start on post #118 on page 12, post #118 should be the information you can take to the dealer. And there's a whole bunch of reading for you on how it was done and what problems some of us encountered...and maybe you wanna bet that "mechanic" a nice cold six-pack that it CAN be done!

After I had mine done, I was talking to a rider at another dealership. I shard that mine was done because it was difficult to hit the CB button while using the throttle. Plus, if you used the CB and hit a bump, you usually hit the squelch.
Dealer asked what I was talking about and he and mechanic said it could not be done. I pulled my bike around to service and they just looked at it. At that point, I had not et switched the buttons so they said mine was no different.. until they hit the buttons.

Mine was the first one my dealer switched. I had taken screen shots of forum posts that told how to do it and gave the TSB. The service manager asked me if I wanted to try it. I asked him how much and he just laughed. He said if it works you can buy me a cup a coffee. He hooked it up, found the option on the program and switched them. I went to the lounge and got him a cup of coffee on the dealership.

When I first rode my RGS at night, I thought it was broken because the hand controls weren't lit up. I've had similar issues with switches that stopped glowing in pretty much every Ford I've ever owned, so I was a little worried. Then I looked on the interwebs and found that lighted controls are an additional upgrade. Dumb.
This should be standard on all bikes, especially ones that cost as much as HDs do!
