Default Fork oil

For anyone who has either changed their fork oil or upgraded the front forks, when you emptied out the oil did you notice a difference in color of oil between the left and right fork. I've had some Legend Axeo front cartridges for a while and just got around to installing them today, when I took apart the right fork the oil was slightly dirty looking, when I took apart the left fork the oil was very red, kind of like transmission fluid. So I was wondering if anyone else also had this happen to them and any idea why Harley would use what appears to be two very different colored oils? This was on a 2014 FLHTK.

I have changed oil in two bikes, both 2014 flhx. Both had the same oil in both sides

I haven’t seen two different oils like that. Usually it’s pretty black and smells terrible.

I just put a set of Axeo in last week on my 2016 FLHTK. No difference between the two.

Sounds like someone changed the oil in one shock recently. New fluid from Harley is red

Have you had a chance to ride with the new Axeo?

I asked AXEO customer support if they had any explanation of this and they said they had seen this on some of the jobs they had done but had no explanation why this would occur. Also I purchased this bike new and the fork oil has never been changed before. No worries though because I've moved on but was curious if anyone had come across this.

I would get a set of new fork seals/rebuild kit from the dealer. There would be a compromise in the fork seals causing contamination in the oil. That is probably why 1 leg fluid looks brand new while the other looks dirty.

Interesting theory, but wouldn't there have been oil also leaking out?

Given that these are not upside down forks, I dont think you would notice other than a thin film on the legs
