They look nice, but not necessary. A little stronger than the HD and have set screws tapped in. I have installed bars on 2016’s and 2017’s using the stock clamp without a single issue, and many others I know have done the same.

I have had 14" apes on several bikes. First one I used the HD clamp as tight as it would go. Backing the bike up in a grass parking lot the bars moved a lot. Reset the bars to correct position and tightened again. Two months later bars moved back when backing bike up hill.

Got a Yaffe supper clamp for that bike. Bars never moved again. Have it on my 13 CVO King and on my 18 CVO Road glide. Used it on my 15 CVO Road glide ultra and my 17 CVO Street glide, all these bikes had 14" bars.

The taller the bar the more leverage. The more you need a more positive clamp

 

which did tou use for the 17 cvo streetglide? 1.25?

 

I see they make for up to 2013 and 2015 and up but dont name 2014 flhxs

 

I'll try to find the receipt but I thing it was 1.25.

 

I had one on my 01 with 16s. I swapped to the hd 1 piece clamp and had my bars come loose on my when i hit a bump. Yes they were tourqued to spec. Swapped to the super clamp and when i laid the bike down the right bar bent but the clamp held. Its not like the super clamp is expensive but the next bike will have one when i go to taller bars.

 

Just drill and tap the stock clamp. Does the same thing for a whole lot less. I did mine and it works great with my 12” bars.

Smartest solution I've heard yet.

I've had my 12" bars on for almost 3 years. Never slipped with the stock one piece clamp until last week. I had to get the bike out of a wheel chock that wasn't adjusted right. When I really yanked on the bars, they slipped about an inch. They were torqued to spec when I installed them.

Removed the black cover and gained access to the bottom two clamp bolts. Loosened them a tad and repositioned the bars. Then I cranked down on the two clamp bolts. Actually gave me a chance to adjust the bars back a bit and I might not replace the bars now. But I'll probably go back and remove the clamp, drill it and tap it for 1/4-20 set screws.
