Default Plug Wires

My 14 SGS is now 4 yrs old. Im taking a long trip in 2 weeks, will do a full service & new plugs as well. Thinking I might change out the wires too so the question is:

Is any brand of wires better than another, worst than another or maybe 8mm vs 10mm vs 12mm wires....??? I know I dont need the super hi-po wires but, it can't hurt to go better.

Thanks ..............

How many miles are on your bike? I don't believe 4 years with average miles justifies new plug wires, unless......... the wire going to the front cylinder has been rubbing the bottom edge of the gas tank (very common). Take a look under there and you will see it if it has. That might justify new wires, which factory replacements would be great. They run a long time if you install something to protect the front one. My opinion for what it's worth.

I corrected the rubbing front wires right after I learned about it in 14. It's still ok. The bike runs fine now, but just thought since Im doing a big service for the trip, why not wires too...

Fire Core wires are some of the best in the industry. If they last on a top fuel car with that 44 amp Mag, they will handle the voltage/ amperage of our motorcycles.

Spark plug wires that the Fuel Moto offers are pretty good. They work with the spark knock.

Max resistance of a pug wire = 5 K ohms.

OP.... there are a lot of really good wire sets out there. Many with better characteristics than OEM stock wires...

However, other than looks or bragging rights, on most Harley engines, to include most Stage IV builds, you won't gain anything by paying more for other than OEM stock wires...

FWIW...

Ok... Picked up a set of 8mm Taylor/Sumax wires this weekend - $18.00 my cost.
Now, the big question is...... Does anyone have a Pic of the routing of the front plug wire under the tank ? I have a Serv Man but I can not find the routing pic anywhere in it.
I know I have to lift or remove the Tank to get the wire out of the holder. But I don't know how many zip tie holders there are & if they are reusable "C Pins" or like the back frame "Zip Tie Pins" that have to be replaced.

Any help will be appreciated..... Thanks

There are a couple under the tank and a couple on the frame. They are push pin zip ties. That are not reusable. Not the same as these but like these.
