Need for Mods...WHY?
#12
If I had to pay somebody to do the mods for me, I wouldn't do it. I'm into performance mods and light appearance mods. I like a clean, sleeper look. Doesn't matter if it's cars, bikes, or whatever. Why do I do it? It's a challenge and I like to have something that is different from the majority. I like speed. I like the adrenaline rush. I like hearing how mean my machine sounds. I like talking to people about the mods I've done if they ask. I like to educate people, help them learn how to work on their own stuff.
In short, the reasons are many. As they say, you can't take it with you. I make a decent living that allows me to spend money on stuff I want without worrying about stuff I need. So, why wouldn't I do it?
As for warranty...I don't want anyone touching my stuff but me. If I can avoid it at all costs, I will. Therefore, I don't care about the warranty.

I would say, "I could tell you, but I don't think you'd understand", but I believe the whole idea of "modding" your bike is to make it "yours", so it doesn't look like every other Harley out there, AND so it performs the way you want it to. Does that mean that we're automatically trying to make it ride like a crotch rocket? NO! We just want our bike to show off our "personality", and to make it different from all the other bikes out there, as well as to make it "fit" us. It also helps to keep one from throwing a leg over someone else's bike that's the same model and color and getting the **** kicked out of you for doing so.

And I just want to clarify that my statement above does not reflect criticism of anyone or what they do to their bike, their bike, their dime. I just find I prefer the stock from-the-factory look to be more my style...just me!

Here's a clip of my Camaro after I had just completed installing mods that resulted in 480 RWHP. This is the moment of satisfaction. This is the 'high" I chase.

I rode my newest bike bone stock for 1500 miles. I hated the stock bars so I changed them. I hated the stock sound so I changed the exhaust. I hated the stock air cleaner housing, so I changed that. I hated the stock lower legs being brushed aluminum so I changed those. I hated the stock suspension so I changed that as well. I hated the stock seat so I changed that.
Getting clued into a pattern here? I didn’t change anything thinking that my bike was now the most powerful beast on the road. Quite the opposite. I changed everything I didn’t like, to parts/accessories that I do like. Pretty simple.

I have never understood the comparison to other bikes (Honda CBR 600 in this case) when discussing upgrades and mods. Like that's even why people mod bikes.
I have never in almost 13 years on HDF seen anyone post, "Hey, I want to make my Harley as fast as a Honda CBR 600".
At the very least people want to mod their bikes to make them run good, cooler, or faster than the next Harley - apples to apples.
It's like saying I don't play basketball because I'll never be as good as Lebron, or I'll never exercise because I'll never look like the Rock. Literally this is Loser mentality. No offense to the OP. Just sayin.

I could ask why someone would spend "all that money" on an ESP for a bike that's left stock and barely ridden but what do I care. Do what makes you happy, its your money.
Me I enjoy working on bikes almost as much as riding them. I have 150,000 miles on a 2008 twincam, no dealer could have helped me pull that off and that's why the dealer has never touched my bike. As far as making it faster, yeah its noticabley more powerful than it was when i got it and it's a lot more fun that way
My thoughts on fast Harley's are simple. "All Harley's are slow, but mines probably not as slow as yours"
