On the 7" touchscreen, GPS, Android-based system I developed for our bikes, I run Waze as my default GPS/Navigation. I've run Google Maps as well, but prefer Waze.

I really like the real-time traffic information Waze tells me about. My only issue with Waze is that sometimes it directs me on some pretty "interesting" routes to places. Routes that, on occasion, seem like they're longer than necessary. Probably, Waze was routing me around some kind of slow-down, construction, or something that I would have found if I took my "normal" route, but at the time, it seemed unduly complex routing.

That said, it has never gotten me lost, and real-time road information on accidents, speed traps, and the like is invaluable.

I listen to Google play music, the Waze app, and my radar detector all bluetoothed through my android phone.
Which Radar detector are you using? And is it just linked to the phone which then BT's to the Boom system? I too use Waze, Google Play Music or Amazon Music. I am considering a Radar Detector on the bike since Waze doesn't always know where Johnny Law is....

I have a 2014 FLHTP (that is a Police Electraglide in Harley-glyphics). Police bikes do not come equipped with a stereo, or any of the components that would allow the stock Harley radios to be installed without major rewiring and the hefty price tag of the Harley stereo (and associated components). Basically, Installing a Boom 6.5 and all of its components would cost in excess of $2000. There was NO WAY I was going to do that!

Back in November 2016 when I got my FLHTP, I developed a system that would do more than the Harley system, for lots less, that would require no cutting of wires or anything of the sort.

I wanted Double DIN. I wanted touchscreen. I wanted GPS navigation. I wanted Bluetooth. I wanted WiFi. I wanted Android Apps. I wanted connectivity with my FP3. I wanted video playback. I wanted to be able to connect a video cam to record my rides. I wanted USB inputs (that's right, more than one). I wanted a graphic equalizer. I wanted subwoofer, front and rear RCA outputs. I wanted a system that could either operate the speakers with internal amplification or the use of external amplifiers (or both at the same time!). I wanted a 4-ohm system that would allow me much more freedom to select from the vast array of speakers and amps that use 4 ohm.

In other words, I wanted it all. And I got it!

My customers have reported that it remains weatherproof, reliable, and expandable.

The system I designed allows the customer to install, without any cutting or modification of the motorcycle, its wiring, or its components, a full, 7" diagonal touch-screen system into the spot that Harley designed for their own 6.5" system. It is built from the ground up for car/motorcycle audio/video/entertainment.

It is Android-based (now Android 5.0), but has its own internal amplifier rated at 45Wx4, but in reality is probably closer to 25Wx4 clean. It has RCA outputs for front, rear and subwoofer (and an EQ to control with loudness function). It has front and rear speaker (amplified) outputs. It has right and left RCA audio input, and a RCA video input as well as a RCA input for a reverse/forward video camera. It has a standard antenna female input, remote amp switch power output, two (magnetically shielded) USB data input lines that can support (at least) 32GB thumb drives. It has 16G internal memory for apps and other media. As of now, there is no XM or Sirius functionality, but I am looking into it. I stream Pandora on mine regularly.

What you will see in the pictures below is the system, fully installed. It was my first attempt, and the surround is the prototype unit. Even in its hand-made prototype stage, it was pretty darn close to perfect.

Installed, unit off (note the finger prints on the screen (the current version has non-reflective screen protection):

FP3 Interface:

Bluetooth, media Player from Phone:

The systems for has been for sale, and I have sold scores of units throughout the country and even internationally. The system comes in several packages:

Basic System Contains:
- Head Unit
- Custom Surround (Dash face Plate)
- Custom Mounts
- Wiring Harness (Contains a fused power supply, grounds, speaker wires [fairing speakers], RCA outputs, etc. all terminated and ready for plug-and-play) into either: - A Police bike with no stereo wiring or
-* A bike with existing wiring (Electraglide, Streetglide, etc. this version comes with an interface module to allow it to utilize the factory stereo controls - for an extra $100)
- GPS antenna
- Installation Instructions

Options:
- 6.75” coaxial speakers
o No-cut, 300W max, 100W continuous
o All mounting hardware
o Speaker Grills
o Detailed Instructions

- Rear Speakers
o From mild to wild – inquire

- Amplifier
o Includes mount, wiring harness designed to connect to the Head Unit
o Detailed Instructions
o Pricing dependent on wattage/features desired

- Discreet forward-facing Video camera available as an extra option

This project has been a real labor of love for me, and I hope I have created a real value for my fellow Rushmore touring owners. This system will even fit a Roadglide.

I make every system to order. It now comes included with wireless controls for those who do not have bikes with internal stereo controls, or for those who wish not to use the factory controls. The system arrives to the customer pre-assembled, pre-wired, and ready to go. Just connect the wire harness to the battery, One to the ground, and plug into the accessory plug inside the fairing and plug into the speakers.

My system is not perfect. Neither Alpine nor Sony put it together. It does not have a professionally-staffed customer service number to call. It comes with my personal cellphone number. And a fellow Harley owner who wants to help. All of the wiring harnesses are personally soldered together by me, in my garage. The faceplates are done by hand, by me, in my garage. Mounting brackets are modified, by hand, by me, in my garage. You get the idea.

Even with all of that custom work, this system is priced very, very competitively.

Forum members can just PM me so that I can take their order. All of my systems have been sold in that way. This has been a labor of love project for my own bike that others wanted as well. It is not my main income source. Just a way to make things for my friends to enjoy and cover my costs.

Ride Safe!
