Also remember that people throwing out peak numbers may not tell the whole story. The person may have only gained 5-10 at the peak, but they may be making 20+ more down low where it's most useful. No argument that headwork will really liven a cam change up, but I wouldn't say it's useless without it. I had been saving up to do headwork and cam change at the same time, but that account seems to keep getting tapped for something else. I'm debating doing just cams over the winter.

84/99 iirc

But FNG is correct too - the biggest change isn’t the numbers, but where the power curve peaks. The 585 is very noticeably stronger down low.

Sure. But 85 HP and 105 TQ are easily had from the stock Rushmore cam with a good tune. Pretty costly to add 7 and 5 IMO.

Air cooled are about 9.8 IIRC.

Then you miss the entire purpose. I didn't buy "numbers", I bought a curve. One worth every penny in my book (and wallet).

Peak numbers don't tell the story; only the curve does that.

The first thing you need to determine is how YOU ride the bike. What I mean is for you to go out and ride as you normally do and figure out what RPM range you ride in MOST of the time. If you are like most of us you will find you mainly run the engine between idle to 3500 RPM 95% of the time your riding. IF you fall into that group, then concern yourself with improvements in that RPM range. As the nice big numbers above 4000 RPM look good on paper but will very rarely every get used by you. Remember that 3000 RPM in 6th gear rolling down the highway is 80 MPH.

You are totally right.
The majority on the various forum websites base their whole ride on those damn peak numbers.
That is just a part of the whole package.
Area under the curve is a foreign term to most.
Im happy I installed TW222 cams in my Rushmore for $350, S&S lifters $106, SE pushrods $155, o rings/bearings for a few bucks and it turned out great, next a proper tune as soon as I can find somebody within three day ride who can tune PV2.

Other then Fuel Moto who would you go to for head work. I have a stage II motor but want to go for some more. I just am not sure I want to go with Big bore kits.

I'm researching cams right now an from what I've been seeing on dyno charts (quite a few on fuel moto's site) the stock cams make solid power the aftermarket cams make it earlier an longer, not just for a brief window. here's a comparison between stock cams in a stage one with a good tune an TW-222 cams an a good tune (exhaust pipe may have been upgraded too for the cams)

https://www.fuelmotousa.com/files/lp...-103-Losch.jpg

now that I have a power vision an tune from Fuel Moto I'm not in a hurry for cams...bike feels rock solid with good power....I will change them when I do cam bearings an lifters next fall.
