25w 60 oil
#12
I run it until the daytime temps top out in the mid 50's. When I ride to work on days like that it can be as low as 36-37. No cold startup issues. That is a liittle outside the normal range but by them time those temps start to be the norm around here it's a quick trip to winterization as we don't stay in that zone too long. I love it when it's hot out though. Quiets things down quite a bit.

Hi all,
I had some lifters issues on my 15 RGS before I replaced w/ S&S premium liters and some SE quickies., I started running half Spectro 25w-60 and half full Spectro 20w-50 full syn.3 qts with filter Talked w/ their tech guys and no issues. Kind of the best of both worlds. I don't start it lower than 40* unless I'm traveling. I give her a little warm up she's earned it... ..goldie....

I'd like to try an oil that's thicker when hot to see if it will quieten my 110, which is noisy, as they all are, and to see if it will lessen the drain down from the lifters to help with that awful rattle for the first few seconds till they get pumped up. I've used the Amsoil V-twin 20w50 for years, and I'd really prefer to stick to a fully synthetic - I note the Spectro 25w60 is a mineral oil. Spectro also do a fully synthetic 10w 60 though - 10w60 L.SP416, and Amsoil do one too, supposedly formulated for dirt bikes. !0w 60 instead of 25w60 might be better in this reasonably cold climate though - I ride down to 45f, or thereabouts, but summer vacation rides to hotter places can be a lot hotter - this year I rode an entire day in 112f.
Anyone tried either of these two in their touring motor?
