Default Bone Dry Coolant Reservoir...HELP

Returned home after riding to Daytona Biketoberfest and back to Ohio, was hot in Daytona, my coolant reservoir was dry on my 15 CVO Road Glide Ultra. Could that be a water pump going bad?

The water pump failures seen are electrical in nature.

When my pump failed, I didn't see any difference in coolant level.

How many miles do you have on the bike?

If water pump goes out you will get check engine light and temp light. You probably have a small leak somewhere.

Fluid has to go somewhere and as the cooling system only cools the exhaust ports, can't imagine it going "down" into the engine. No doubt I am wrong about the nature of the cooling system, but that is my understanding. As such would have to be leaking out. I would refill and start it up and monitor. You do have a service manual, don't you?

Yes I do have a service manual. I topped the coolant off. I just had it flushed by the dealer prior to going to Biketoberfest. Should of done it myself. The fans were on quite a bit in traffic in Daytona

It takes time and patience to refill system correctly. Use your service manual and refill it as it says.

There is a discussion here about a "porous cylinder head" that actually allowed coolant to seep into the cylinder. Apparently, they aerate the metal when casting the heads to make it lighter, and occasionally that creates passages large enough to allow liquid transfer while appearing to maintain pressure. While this seems unlikely...if you really can't find any other leak, this might be worth investigating.

That might be your answer, maybe dealer rushed it and didn’t fill it correctly..it’s not hard to flush it.,might think about that next time it needs it..If I’m taking a trip,I’m doing the maintenance myself period...
