I did Rinehart Slimline duals and stock H-D mufflers for a year, but wife couldn't hear me come home.
I installed the Jackpot 4 inch Dynotuned mufflers, for riding I preferred H-D mufflers, but wife hears me now.

Stock pipes get louder with age. Most of the aftermarket pipes are annoying. I’m way past the point in my life that I need hey look at me throttle blipping at a stop light on my Harley. Punks on Harley’s throttle blipping annoy me. My stock pipes on my 15 RGS sound awesome.

not loud at at slow speed but has a nice bark a freeway speeds, overall much deeper sound.
I have these on my bike now. Sound good going down the HI way. Definitely get loud when you put a load on them, super loud when pulling next to a road barrier.

I just installed a set of E series on my 07 FLHTC with @ 103HO and I wouldn’t say they are mellow sounding at cruising speed but have a nice bark when you get on them, I replaced a set of 4”Jackpot with a welded lollipop in the end of the baffle and they are louder than the Jackpots, To me the Jackphad a droning sound when cruising on the interstate and that is why I welded a washer lollipop on the end of the baffle.
i had them with true duals, I switched to 2 in 1 for the performance and it was worth it.

The Screamin Eagle High Flow exhaust system is very mellow, nice deep tone and still keep your performance with a full sized 2" system (even the crossunder pipe).

Funny you should mention these. I just ordered a set from eBay. Looking forward to getting them and putting them on.

Found this! This is actually my second set, I had a set on my 2012 FLHTC. I have been happy with them. Big bore kit and cams being installed this week so we shall see how they do.

CVO take offs. Flow better due to twice as many holes in the plug and only slightly louder than stock. They also look better than stock because they are 4" and can get with different end caps. Lots to pick from on eBay.

try the stock muff's and look up some of my old threads, you can drill the OEM muff's for a bit more sound.

I put a V&H X-pipe on my M8 with drilled stock muffs,
and my neighbor put TAB slipon's on his M8 with stock head pipe and kept the CAT, and my wife says she can't tell which bike is which coming thru the 'hood.

I would keep the head pipe, because that removes the heat of the CAT.
