Default Fob compatibility disappointment

I recently picked up a 2015 Road King with the passive fob security system. I brought it in to my dealer for some tires and other stuff, and while there I asked them to set the King to use the same fob as my 2019 Low Rider to lighten the load on my already bloated key ring. I did this before between two 2016 bikes so I figured it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunatly it is. Seems the frequency range on the 2019 fob isn't compatible with the 2015 security system. Fuuuuugg! I was really hoping to lose one of those huge fobs. Oh well. The tech spent about a half hour trying to make it work, with no luck. Nice guys that they are, they didn't charge me for the time. When I got home, looked at the parts catalog and sure enough, there are two different part numbers for pre 2017 and later.

Well. I guess I'll just have to live with another oversized bulge in my pants...

That's too bad about the non-compatibility issue. However you could try one of these push-pull things I use when I want to jettison most of my keys.

You need to go on a key diet. We don’t carry house keys. We have a digital entry on our front door, and for the garage a garage door opener with an outside key pad...and we have a hidden key where only a wacko like me would look. For each vehicle, I have a set of keys/fobs for just that vehicle. Keys that I only use o;ce in a while are on another ring.

You're not kidding. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't feel the need to carry a tactical eye burning flashlight, and a second knife (in addition to the one clipped to my pocket all the time). But I'm so damned scatterbrained I'd spend half my life going up and down the 12 floors from my apartment to the garage every time I forgot to bring the key to "that bike" if I didn't carry them with me...

Funny thing is there's really only 4 or 5 non-bike keys on the ring lol.

Fortunately the closet I keep my keys is near the garage house door. If now labeled my key fobs.

Mcad-

Those FOBs look too similar to my pea brain. Ya might wanna color code those puppies. Be awful to grab the wrong one. Then ya gotta do the whole PIN thing.

I made a house key for every key ring i have. Have a house key for everyone of the car and truck key rings. that way what ever i'm driving i only have that set of keys with a house key on the ring. When i ride the bike i have the fob and key for the bike a a house key, that's all i need.

Na, that's the whole point. I'll never grab the wrong one since they both are on the same ring. Along with everything else.

I did the same. I have three cars (Jeep, pickup truck, and a van conversion) and a motorcycle. I have two sets of keys for each with a house key on every one. Keeps each key chain fairly light.
