Default Road King windshield question

I have a new Road King Special that I installed a HD windshield on. Since it doesn’t come with a windshield stock, I had to buy the studs, acorn nut and rubber grommet kit. My problem is the windshield bracket doesn’t want to slide into the top rubber grommets (or whatever they’re called) easily. The bottom goes in fine, but it seems like I may be missing a spacer to shim out the bottom rubber things because the bracket seems to bend a bit when I try fit the windshield on.

Can someone take a look at the rubber things that the windshield bracket slips into and tell me if there is any spacer or washer between the rubber piece and the nacelle please?

I appreciate it.

58221-04 is the kit on the H-D website. If you have all those pieces you have everything you need

I’ll look this afternoon if no one else replies but I’m pretty sure that’s all that is on mine

Sometimes, you have to squeeze things together a bit to help line everything up. My '09 has no spacers.

you'll want to loosen up all the windshield nuts. I always hand tighten the nuts then mount the shield and adjust then tighten everything down.

Ok, guess there’s nothing there. I may try to loosen the acorn nuts a bit. I really had to pound the top of the bracket in place, more then I was comfortable doing to a piece of plastic.

Maybe I torqued them too much.

Thanks all.

hard to say what you've tried since we're not standing there, but make sure the bottom bracket seats all the way, a good firm push is needed, before trying to roll the top in. But you shouldn't have to loosen / tighten the studs to get anything to fit, it's an on/off process, nothing more, made for quick detach (which you already know)

Yeah, that was the reason for the question. My old road king was quick and easy. This one is effort I’m not used to having it exert.

Im installing epaulet lights tomorrow so the studs come out and are replaced with bolts. I’ll try it then. I’ll post some photos if it doesn’t work out as I’m hoping,

Thanks

My 04 has no spacers. What if you loosen the brackets that attach to the windshield then put it in place, then tighten the brackets?

don't know that these will help but use them for reference if you can. I think maybe if you click on the pic it will show up a little larger
