It comes with a switch, and has 3 modes, you can see the mode in the speedo(i do believe the dealer has to flash for it too) one that's automatic, or always off or always on, in auto mode is comes on at a set temp, and then turns off if you go over a certain MPH, then back on as you slow down, I think its all explained on the HD website.

The fan can be switched to Off/On/Auto operation.
  1. ON setting;
    1. The fan runs at speeds below 64 km/h (40 mph).
    2. Fan will stop running at speeds above 64 km/h (40 mph).
    3. As speed lowers, the fan turns back on at 56 km/h (35 mph). This gap prevents the fan from cycling on and off during low speed changes.
  2. AUTO setting: The fan operates based on a combination of vehicle speed, engine temperature and ambient air temperature.
    1. Vehicles with Ambient Air Sensors
      1. The fan runs at speeds below 64 km/h (40 mph) when the engine temperature is above 95 °C (203 °F) and ambient air temperature is above 15 °C (59 °F).
      2. The fan runs at speeds below 64 km/h (40 mph) when the engine temperature is above 215 °C (419 °F) and ambient air temperature is below 15 °C (59 °F).
      3. Fan turns off if vehicle speed exceeds 72 km/h (45 mph) or if engine temperature goes below this temperature 202 °C (395 °F).
    1. Vehicles without Ambient Air Sensors
      1. The fan runs at speeds below 64 km/h (40 mph) when the engine temperature is above 95 °C (203 °F).
      2. Fan turns off if vehicle speed exceeds 72 km/h (45 mph) of if engine temperature goes below this temperature 82 °C (179 °F).
Didn't see this, but ya this LOL

I've got a 2014 CVO Limited and put this in. Of course, after I've put it in the temp has been around 30-40 F so haven't used it.

For my bike it's only got an on/off switch with "don't use above 40 degrees F" note.

With the bike at idle and my helmet on I had to look at the blades of the fan to see if it was running. The button turns green but that's not all that easy to see with bright sunlight. Couldn't hear it at all.

Having done a parade or two, I'm looking forward to trying this out later in the year.

Thanks! Where is the on/off switch? Can you use an AUX switch in the switch panel?

Far right AUX button is the on/off switch.

I’m kinda slow here, but just to be sure... on a 2015/2016 (RGU) there will be no “auto” feature, right? If you want the fan on, turn it on... if you want it off turn it off. Meaning the auto off when you reach 40 mph and auto on when you slow below 35mph does not apply to those year models? On those year models, if the switch is on then the fan will run all the time, right?

Correct. The '17 and up have the speed sensor, below that we get on/off

I installed this in early winter and haven't rode with it yet.
I have the same issue as a few folks have mentioned already, I also have been using the socket that this plugs into under the left side cover for my heated seat.
I probably will eventually make a Y adapter.
I'm not worried about current draw as I will never have the heated seat on and fan on at the same time.
If anyone has had or know of where to get a Y adaptor for the 8 pin socket please let me know.
I have contacted Namz and they have the parts to make one. Since this plug setup is only used for three years 2014, 2015, 2016 bikes, they don't have a pre made adaptor available. (And don't have the demand either)

8 pin? Look at the top post with the fan, that's a 4 pin setup and there's a Y-cable at almost every HD dealership I've been to.

You are correct, the fan has a 4 pin connector.
But the fan connector plugs into the "relay harness" which has the 8 pin accessory plug. Which I have never seen any HD dealer carry.
