Default Waterpump Clamps

Has anyone bought and used the spring style clamps on all the connections when installing the new updated pump ? The kit has some crimp style clamps that i do not care for. Besides if using the spring style you can disassemble if you need to replace a radiator or some other part. I believe the updated pump kit only uses the spring style on the pump connections.
Either that or i may use worm style clamps which i don't care much for either.

I used narrow worm drive clamps on any location that called for the crimp style clamps. The narrow clamps are about the same width as the crimp style. I used a standard width lined worm drive clamp on the water pump outlet originally but I couldn't get it to stop leaking, the narrow clamp took care of it. I think the spring style clamp may be too wide for the pump outlet. There's not much clearance there.

I was thinking of just buying the spring type clamps right from the dealer. I would think they would stock these as they are stock replacement on some of the locations on the pump. They should just use the spring type in all locations, but that would let people do it at home instead of having to bring in to the dealer because of the special tool needed to crimp them.

The tool can be had for $25 on Amazon. You aren't getting in and out of the service dept. at a dealer for less than 3-4 times that. I don't think those crimp type clamps hold up over time. Any seepage I had on my Twin Cooled TK's factory cooling system was related to those clamps.

McMaster-Carr. The narrow clamps I used are unlined but the slots in the narrow clamps are so small that the rubber jacket on the hose does not "squish" through like it does on the wider clamps.

Thanks ! That's what i was worried about. I may even run a small band of electrical tape around the hose before installing the clamps.

They make clamps specifically for soft hose. It has an inner band to protect the hose.

I reused the old spring type clamps when I did my water pump replacement. The crimp clamps are just for looks. They're only used in areas where they are visible, otherwise the rest are spring clamps. 3000 miles since I replaced mine. No issues.
