Default 2020 models NaviExtras GPS map year

Has anyone seen what year the maps are on the new 2020 models? I've been debating buying the current updated maps (2018) on Naviextras but if the 2020 bikes have a newer map I assume they will update their website with the latest build soon.

So I went to the dealer today and the bikes have a 2020 database and the 19s have a 19 database. So here's the question. Will they even update the older GT model with new maps anymore?

Thanks for checking this out: I too am looking to update.

You mentioned the bikes had a 2019 database - but, did you look at the maps? What year were they? From my point, if the map is at least 2019, I may go ahead and get them.

The 2019 bikes had a 2019 maps database or version. That means the 2014-18 are now missing two model years of map updates and makes me wonder if they will ever even get another update now.

Maps version and the database version are the same thing. When you go to maps version it will say MY-2018 or MY-2019 etc.. the 2020 say MY-20201. The 1 means first quarter. The latest version you can buy for a 2014-2018 is MY-2018.

Don't hold me to this, but the MY-(insert year here) doesn't necessarily mean the map data is from that year. It is my understanding that the map data can be 1 to 1-1/2 years older than the MY year.

Are you saying the 2019 and 2020 bikes could be running the same maps as the 2018? I knew the maps in general were old but how can you tell what actual year the data is from?

GalTXGuy - that is exactly why I asked the questions - I thought the same thing.

Somehow I believe that the map version for the newer bikes and the 14-18 bikes are the same download. So (I believe) if there is a 2019 map update, you can use it in all of the bikes. I will head bnack over to the site and see what I can find out.

Interesting - I just want to the Harley site and it looks like the download for the 2014-2018 bikes are different from the download for the 2019-20 bikes. The last upgrade I see for the 2014-2018 bikes is 2018.

Having said that, I have to imagine there is going to be (at some time), and update of the latest maps. Imagine this - you buy a 2018 bike and there is never a map update - this just does not make sense. My Garmin devises seem to update at least twice a year. Just sort of wonder why these guys take so long to update

The Harley site has nothing to do with the map other than providing the latest dealer locations update. The Harley site download will update the software for the head unit and is why there are two different downloads, i.e. the head unit was changed in 2019. If you want to upgrade the GPS maps go to naviextras.com. You'll have to pay to upgrade, $150, unless you have a CVO. CVO's get three free updates in the first 5 years. Click on the "how to update" link, lower right, to determine whether new maps are available for your specific bike or not.
