On a group ride today and noticed red security light came on. Stayed on rest of day. Thought I would check lights just for kicks. Turn and brake lights work fine. Running lamps inop. When I turn on ignition, front fender lamp turns on for a second and then goes out. Took bike to dealer just before they closed and they checked fuses and relays. Everything OK. Have to bring it back tomorrow. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance.

 

Is bike stock,or have You made changes to lighting?

I had something similar on my 14 Ultra this past weekend. Red security and check engine light stayed on but I had no controls on left handlebar. All fuses checked out ok, pulled main fuse and re-installed and everything was back to working. Called dealer Tuesday morning and they told me to bring it in if it happened again so they could get codes, since I pulled the fuse it reset everything and the wouldn't be able to retrieve any data. So far so good after resetting it though.

 

Have you checked for error codes?

If the fender light turns on for a second and then turns off, you may have a short in that section of the harness so the BCM would shut that circuit down.

 

+1 to the post above. On my '14 Road King I installed HD heated grips. I used the unused plug inside my headlight that normally feeds 12V and ground to the fender light on other models that have one. When the BCM saw the additional amperage of the grips, it shut down the yellow running lights and grips on that common circuit.

I went back to the accessory socket by the fuse box for power and used HD's adapter for the '14's for my grips and garage door opener.

You likely have some electrical problem that needs inspection.

 

Took it to the dealer this am and got the work order started. They told me to come back in a hour or so. Went out to the bike and the lights started working again. Only once after that did the lights go out again. Cycled the key and it was fine all day. Rode the bike over 200 miles with no reoccurrence. I previously said only the fender tip light would briefly come on band go off. In fact all the running lights would do this. Turn on the key switch and they would blink on then off. Now it's OK for now. I went back and canceled the appointment. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it. Also, no lighting mods on the bike.

 

check all marker light wires for cuts. I just had the same problem. Seems a wire for a marker light got caught in the kick stand. Splice the wire, re route it, and good to go.
