K and P reusable Mesh Oil Filter
What are your thoughts on using this oil filter?
Is anyone currently using or has used one of these filters in the past?

I read the review and I don't see the value. You have to clean the mesh filter, which means more time to change filter, cleaning and drying time.It does not explain if you have to use a cleaning agent,Brake cleaner, carbureter cleaner or soap and water? If You use a solvent or cleaner ,there is an additional cost.It implies that the quad ring needs to be replaced regularly, but does not indicate a cost for quad ring.$174.00 for a chrome filter.I can buy 15 K&N filters from Amazon with free shipping for that price and throw them away instead of taking the time to clean a K&P.That is 75,000 miles before the K&P pays for itself!!!

I agree with your numbers on costs, i think a you tube i watched he actually used brake cleaner, then soap and water, and then air compressor.
The O ring is another factor.
Because the numbers for most owners will certainly be an additional expense.
We use these type of filters in aircraft, fuel, oil, a stainless mesh, some are cleaned and some are replaced. The advantage would have to be in their filtering flow rate, and whatever that does for the lubrication and cooling over normal paper filter elements.
I think on a you tube it also indicated that it has a magnetic disk, that naturally attracts the debris in the oil. I guess if you check it and it has a chip of metal with a serial number on it you might get concerned. .
One owner i talked to said he used the same filter in his last three bikes. I guess HD has used the same size and/or he had similar models etc.
So for him i guess it has worked out.

Have had this same filter on three different bikes totaling over 90,000mi.Never a issue with oil and it takes 5 min to clean and you can examine whats in your oil. I spent $150.00 and some change when they came out in 07 or 08,and many miles later no issues and it looks good.JMO.Its the last filter I'll purchase.

I have the polished aluminum housing, K&P. I like it. The cooling fins probably help and it's easy to clean. It's also a tad smaller so there should be more air flow around the housing. And since it's smaller, it's just a little easier to maneuver around the oil cooler hoses. Used it on my '08 FLHX and now on my SGS. It's also a good looking filter. Never had a problem with the o-ring.
