In NY:

Route 22 from Pawling north. My favorite part is from Millerton to Hillsdale, but the whole rode is a pleasure.

Route 23 from Hillsdale to Catskill and then 23A out into the Catskills. From there sometimes North back onto 23 - the view in Windham being particularly dramatic or South from Hunter into Phoenicia and back East into the Woodstock area.

Route 97 North out of Port Jervis, with Hawk's Nest being the main attraction but the whole road all the way to Hancock is a beautiful ride.

In CT:

The old reliable Route 7. It's a popular road for a reason. From New Milford North all the way to Massachusetts and then into Vermont, it is beautiful all the way.

There are a variety of roads that intersect with 7 that can take you either over to 23 in NY or over to 63, 44 or 202 in CT. Pretty much any numbered state road in Litchfield county offers a good ride.

Depends on where you are starting, and how many miles you like to ride. I am starting from NW CT, and if I have all day I always get out of CT.

Rt 2 from Greenfield MA to North Adams is fantastic. To get there I take Rt 8 from CT (I like it a lot better than 7). And its worth the time to go up into VT either on VT 8 or 100, then take 9 west into Bennington. From there either 7 or NY22 south.

I also love the ride on 44/55 over the Mid Hudson Br, then stay on that thru the Lake Minnewaska Area. If I leave early enough I'll then go north and hit the eastern side of the Catskills. Stay off the main roads, 28 and 23 and find the cool county roads that have #'s. Any map or GPS shows them.

You could always take the Long Island Expressway to queens and back which has plenty of twisties around potholes and and endless views of tailpipes whilst inhaling the sweet smell of diesel

There are 10 bikes to every car in the NJ Pine Barrens on nice summer and fall weekends-problem is, no easy or safe way to get to them from New York. Try the Turnpike to I95 to US 206, straight to US Route 30, and back north to NJ 542 to Sweetwater, or back up 563 to Chatsworth (visit the Hot Dog Lady or the Hedger House) to NJ 72, then up Savoy/Pasadena Road back to NJ 539, then north to I-!95 or US 130 and back North. Check out Google Earth, you'll be amazed at the good riding there!

Taconic State Parkway until it ends. Town of Old Chatham, nice little bar/restaurant with good, cheap food called Jackson's Old Chatham House.
