Glad you had a good trip! My wife and I made it out there a couple weeks ago as well. Didn't get a ton of time to explore - basically one big loop around the lake - but I agree, the roads we did see were awesome.

Took Route 4 basically the whole way back across VT and NH as far as Northwood - I'd been on much of it already, but as others have said, I'd recommend that route if you get another chance with more time.

You didn't say when you are planning your ride. Time also dictates traffic. There are some good suggestions listed. The bridge alone is a sight no matter how much you see it. I'd much rather travel the U.P. in the summer than the lower just for traffic reasons. There is also plenty to see in the U.P. (And maybe you've seen that?) But that's just me.

Not only are you two years late to the dance, you're in the wrong state as well lol. You're not the first one to restart an old thread.

agreed the rte 4 is a fantastic route...

Off the top of my head, Rt 9 to Rt 100 then you can cross the mountains @ any of the Gaps, Brandon Gap near Rochester Vt. take the Ferry across Lk.Champlain, Croint Point Bridge back in to NY Near Ticonderoga..
Theres all kinds of roads up there to travel.. No Bad roads in ADK's..
Ck -Out the maps
