... but I found an oil that has taken the place of all other oils. After reading about and using various oils, I came upon Schaeffer's Oils. 100% Paraffin. I changed from Bel Ray oil to Schaeffer, and with in 500 miles all noise stopped! Not over time, but **BAM** **NOW**. Primary, transmission, QUIET! The only thing I hear now are the pushrods, wind and the tire tread hitting the pavement. That's all. Engine seems to run freer.

I've tried Amsoil, Mobil 1, Bel Ray, Harley oil and so on. Never have I had a oil keep this engine quiet.

The above is my personal opinion, fell free to make it your own...

A friend a long time ago said that paraffin was what used to gunk up old engines. He took a valve cover off an old Chevy 350 and it was really bad. It's what valvoline used to have in it.

I don't think I've ever heard of that brand.

It's been around since 1839. Go to the link and read the history.

I've been using Schaeffers in all my vehicles for years. It's a very good product.

Nearly all oils are paraffin based; the other kind is ester based and that's rare; marketing as paraffin based is just... marketing. Penzoil and Quaker state used to market their products as paraffin based, but they were just good quality oil; most of their competition was, too. Once you get past the base material, that's where the differences come in; schaeffer probably just has a good mix of additives. I wouldn't be surprised if, like Amsoil, Mobil 1, Purple and other brands forum members write about, some folks will find it quieter, others more noisy. All the premium oils are doing their job, even if you get more noise from some, but few of us really like hearing chain and valve train noise.
