Every transmission failure you hear about is pretty much the same, the big ball bearing that supports the main drive gear fails.

Bearing failure, not gear failure.

Maybe we really should find out which lube protects the bearings better (and stop preaching about gear lube) since that is where the weak link is...

There are many manual transmissions that use motor oil as the factory designated lubricant in automotive use.

Motorcycles have been using motor oil (shared system) for many decades, on very high horsepower applications, it works fine.

I am in not way an expert on oils but all I know is the main bearing in my trans went bad at the same time as the inner primary bearing and race. Now I had syn3 in the motor and primary and redline synthetic in the trans. After rebuilding everything now I have 20w50 regular motor oil in the motor primary fluid in the primary and 75/145 gear lube in the trans where the gears are. My bike is quieter and shifts smoother. That's my story and I'm sticking to it from now on. I don't believe one fluid is good for all applications. Jmho

Don't see Redline on Amsoil's test. Redline has service pack that contains three different fluids - not just 20w50 everywhere.
Can get the package in 20w60 for hot summer weather too. And, no I don't peddle the stuff.

I'm trying to post and it sez 5 more
