Default Mobil 1 20W-50 V-Twin Oil

Is this oil approved by Harley for use in their engines? This is the oil that I would like to go with, as I use Mobil 1 in everything, including my snowblower, 4 stroke outboard, and lawn tractor.

The Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 is a very popular choice for engine oil among the forum members, many are running it. I tried it but there was a very noticeable increase in top end noise so I've stayed away from synthetics in the engine and run SAE 50 Valvoline VR1; the combination of VR1 and some Rock Out inserts and my top end is stone quiet now.

I tried the Mobil 1 20W-50 in the primary and did have some clutch slippage; the 20W-50 isn't JASO rated so I run Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 synthetic in the primary which is JASO rated.

For the transmission use a proper gear lube, there's no such thing as a one lubricant solution; I've had great success with Mobil 1 75W-140 synthetic and Redline V-Twin w/Shockproof and use either...

Thanks again Tin Cup! Just what I was thinking...Mobil 1 4T 10w-40 in the primary, and Mobil 1 75w-140 synthetic in the transmission. Sounds like the way to go!

tapel, sounds good to me. I plan on using Mobil 1 20w-50 V-Twin in the engine, Mobil 1 4T 10w-40 in the primary, and Mobil 1 Synthetic 75w-90 or 75w-140 gear lube in the transmission.

For my last bike (Suzuki Hayabusa) I always used Mobil 1 4T 10w-40, and was happy with it.

The owners manual says the recommended oil is Harley Davidson brand oil, if not available then use diesel oil, which can be used until you get back to the dealer to get more Harley Brand oil....The manual is written with the intent of making the owner think there is no option other than HD brand lube. That`s why they don`t even have an API spec on their oil.

It`s the oil section...what other subject would be appropriate here?
