Motorcycle oil or conventional oil?

Walmarts has M1 15-50 race oil that's the best. I run this with STP oil treatment, I'm sold on it. I like to add stp to give it some deno . I wouldn't run the super teck oil but some do. I use Bosch filter 3330 from Menards, it's black after taking sticker off, quilty filter. My tensioner's (22,000) that some say don't last with the old hyvo chain on SE cam plate.

If you read your owners manual it probably tells you to use a diesel engine oil, if the recommended MoCo oil is not available. An ordinary motor oil doesn't have the same spec as a diesel engine oil. Having said that, it's amazing how much effort members go to to find alternative brands!

The manual also says right after saying to "use diesel oil", to change it out asap. They list a spec for the diesel oil that their own oil doesn't meet. And being there's no spec for motorcycle oil only outdated API automotive spec's like SG, seems any oil that meets that spec will do. Most motorcycle oil's say they meet it, but don't get tested to see if it does. Use whatever floats your boat.,,,

I suspect Harleys oil formulation for motorcycles and the temperature they run, their tolerances and all is special for the motorcycles...… I just would not gamble a small savings with a big expensive engine.
That is my $.02.

i think what your asking is ,motorcycle oil is a broad description of motorcycle oil.that covers synthetic oil and conventional oil.conventional oil is petroleum base product.synthetic is synthetic base,no petroleum.what ever you choose just make sure its designed for motorcycles.auto oils have friction modifiers and other additives that are not good for motorcycles(air cooled motors).motorcycle oils tends to have more zink and other things that auto oils don't have.
