i believe its high pressure in the crank case from running high rpm's.this is nothing unusual(the way i understand it ).did you raise your rev limit??i had a friend who this happened to and for the life of me can't remember his fix,he has since passed away..it could also be since its an 01,an old dried out rubber around the dip stick.check with your dealer they may has some suggestions for you.anyhow riding around with the dip stick not seated may not be a good thing,a fix is priority one in your future.

You might want to check all your oil lines ( rubber ) for one that is kinked or routed in such a way that as the line gets warm ( more pliable ) it kinks ... Just a thought

Harley has a retro fit oil filter cap mount, that vents to crank. Good luck with the parts guy.

I think 2002 or 3 they changed the design.

Harleys cure was a screw in cap. But the retro vent helps.

I knew a guy, took girl out for a date with his new Ultra. They had to walk up and down the road looking for his oil cap. I am betting that gal did not let her future husband buy one after they paid they house off and kids out of college.

I do run at 1/2 quart down now. I used to be cocky about how I wanted as much oil as possible. Now I think the first half may go quicker, but have never actually kept track.

Having a similar problem with my 02 Ultra as well. I'm talking a brand new cap blew out after 50 feet. This occurred while on vacation. It also ended up pumping oil out at the rate of a quart to 60 miles. The bike is in transit being shipped home right now. I'll be tearing into this thing as soon as it arrives. I will let you know what I find.
