Default Easy oil change? Or larger problem?

Does any one use an oil extractor pump for oil changes?
How do you like it? Pros and cons? What about the scavenger system for getting ALL the oil out of the engine?
Looking to make my life easier and or less expensive than going to the dealer....my 5K service maintenance was $400.00!

DIY cost about $30 to $40 (Black filters are about $10 online and a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 is about $25 at WM) and take less than 30 minutes, you can do it faster yourself than the ride to the dealership.

Oil Change should take 15mins tops. A drain pan and simple hand tools is all that is needed.

Why over complicate it?

I know that some want to get all the oil out but the oil changes have been done without the scavenger system for years and most motors are still running...dump the oil, insert new filter, refill with oil and ride.
Not saying the scavenger system doesn't work, just that millions of Harley's have been ran for years without it.

If you are a handy guy. Get a j&S jack and a service manual. It will pay for it self. and you know it will be done right. Just my 2cts

No I don't and am not about to start now! I've been riding for over 50 years and owned Harleys for over 40, with over a half a million miles in all. I agree with the other chaps, drain, refill and ride on. Simples!

No matter what you do, you won't actually get ALL of the oil out, without dismantling the engine, there will always be some oil left behind.

Spend your money on a genuine factory service manual and a belt tension tool, plus basic workshop hand tools and you'll be just fine!

>Mobile 1 synthetic car oil at 15w50 for the engine hole ONLY - great stuff and CHEAP! - they have a rebate going too!

Walmart isn't on the vendor list, but I called and they're ok!

>Amsoil Transmission fluid in the transmission or Redline which is easier to find (and a bit cheaper)

> Amsoil Primary fluid in the primary, or Redline again.

Buy the proper tools, and a service manual, and tell the dealer goodbye!

This guy does a great job with his Harley service vids; here's how to adjust the clutch.

When changing fluids, DO NOT add specific amounts of fluid, use the dipsticks for the Tranny and engine and watch this video for the Primary:

I use an oil extractor pump on one of my 4 bikes because:

It is a 1997 Springer with chrome side covers that prevent easy access to the oil drain plug that is on a rubber tube. I use the pump to pull the oil out from the oil reservoir. Change the filter and replace the oil. I am certain that there is still old oil in the bike of course because of this method.......but it works fine and I have done it for 13 years.
