Default Dino vs Synth with M8?

NO DEBATE ON OIL HERE PLEASE!

I'm nearing my first 1,000 service and I have always been a believer in synthetic. Not a huge fan of Harley Oil but I stick with it since I have all my service done at dealership. When I had my Ultra limited I did notice the engine seemed to be a little more tap heavy when using synthetic compared to dino oil. I was told as far as the Harley branded oils go, their synthetic does make the engine tap more then the dino.

I'm still going with Synthetic and with the new M8 I will start it at the 1k oil change rather then the 5K I did on my 103 ( I have my reasons and i'm comfortable with that). Does the new M8 engine exhibit the same behavior that my 103 engine did when running synthetic?

Talking

John, there's a dedicated M8 section, where you should find more members of them. They're probably so busy talking 'oil talk' they don't often call in here!

I would use what the service manual recommends been using SYN3 for that reason. Oils are the owners choice now a days there made very well with very little difference between them other then color and weight. There so many debates out here just fine what’s right for you.

Comes down to what helps you sleep at night. Standard oils and lubes work change as required and ride. Know many that have put a lot of miles on using nothing but regular oil and lube.
No arguing syn stands up to heat better. Is it necessary who knows.

I have tried a LOT of oils in my testing over the years..... as a rule dino oils are always quieter than syn. The best I've tried is Spectro 25-60 dino, the worst is Mobil 1 V-Twin.

This is only in regards to engine noise... I'm sure M1 is a fine oil.

I have been using Spectro 25W60 for the 40K miles in 2 Harleys, love it.

Great oil pressure and engine is quieter.

Zero oil consumption in both bikes 2001, FXDX (TC88) and a 2012 FKHX (103)

Change every 5K

Ken
