However since it's a 114 the manual does suggest synthetic in the transmission. I'm just wondering what other people are doing. I am NOT looking for oil brand suggestions, if I use synthetic it will be Mobil 1 V-Twin oil. I have used it in my twin cam and Sportster Motors with great success. I'm just looking for opinions on synthetic versus standard oil in the Milwaukee eight. Thanks
Not sure what model you have. But my 2018 owners manual states all 114 engines came with the Syn3 factory fill. Full synthetic retains its viscosity longer than regular Dino oil. Use what you want but i'd stay with full synthetic.
Cheers

Def would go synthetic. Red line is very good oil. I have Mobil one in it now and no issues, (knck on wood) so far. I would prob switch to amsoil or redline next time. Have some Amsoil laying around. Used it in my MX bikes that are at top end all day and never had an issue.

Sorry to bring up an old thread here. I was just about to order fueling vented oil cap for my M8 114 and one of the two tech tips they had was running conventional oil due to blow by issue. The other tech tip was not to bounce of the rev limiter.Feuling Parts

You can run synthetic without issue.

Keep in mind the Harley Syn 3 is a synthetic-blend oil and Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline, etc. are fully synthetic oils. Both types are good but they are different.

So, apparently now they have both. If you go to the HD site they have Full Synthetic, and Synthetic Blend oil available https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...rCategoryCodes

The SYN 3 actually says "Full Synthetic" on the bottle. Not sure if it always did. I don't use the stuff.

They sure are proud of their full synth!!!! You can pick up a 5 quarts of Mobil1 Vtwin for $50 @ Walmart. That still leaves you $40 for a filter.
