Castrol 20W50 with HD360
Hey guys,
I have a 2017 SGS with about 4k miles on it now. I checked my oil today and noticed I was about half a Qt low, maybe 3/4 of a Qt. I had my 1K service on it at 1K with regular HD360 and checked the oil after that and it was perfect. My question is, can I use any brand 20w50 motorcycle oil in the motor until my next service at 5k or are there some that will mix with the HD 360 and damage my engine? My manual says to use diesel oil if HD 360 is not available but I currently only have some Castrol 20W50 in my garage. Thanks for the input!

I wouldnt. Isnt castrol made with a different base than other oils. I remember reading on how its different but i cant remember exacly why... i do know its bad to go from one to the other during services and mixing the two though.

You can add any brand 20w50 oil without issue.

Top it off with the Catrol and don’t think twice about it. Regular oil changes along with a quality filter is the best insurance you can buy Some swear by Dino oil only while others are synthetic oil only crowd, proper level is important so top it off and go.

The Castrol brand name is derived from 'caster oil', a very long time ago! Their products haven't been based on it for a many decades. From their website:
Early in the new century, Wakefield took a personal interest in two sporty new motorised contraptions – the automobile and the aeroplane. The company started developing lubricants especially for these new engines, which needed oils that were runny enough to work from cold at start-up and thick enough to keep working at very high temperatures. Wakefield researchers found that adding a measure of castor oil, a vegetable oil made from castor beans, did the trick nicely. They called the new product “Castrol.”
Wakefield was Charles C Wakefield, the founder of the company in 1899.
