[QUOTE=P51Driver;17520304 Also can anybody tell me what the viscosity of HD Formula+ is?[/QUOTE]

Formula + will have a viscosity of ~20 cSt at 100C. Formula + VOA
That is in the 50 weight motor oil viscosity range.

Red line also offers a 75w-110 gear oil that is also ~ 20 Cst at 100 C.

Yeah, I realize this is an old thread but it’s amazing how HD revises their specs and recommendations when they start selling a product. They used to advise against synthetic motor oil until they came out with Syn3. For all these years they’ve recommended Formula+ (decent product BTW) without ever disclosing its viscosity rating. I’m sure a lot of dealership service departments recommended against heavy weight gear pull in favor of Formula +. Now, surprise! 80w140 is the preferred lubricant.

No it is not. I live and ride year round in Wisconsin. Run SYN 75 -140 in transmission have for years. Now running HD SYN 80-140 in the primary also and it has been working great. SYN have changed all the old rules.

no it's not, it isn't a factory fill and it's mentioned as an alternate choice for engines that see extreme duty...but I see your point and HD is the King of marketing..case in point SYN3 as a factory fill for CVOs..their powertrains aren't any different that the non CVOs that have HD360 and Formula+ as the factory fill..so why? because they can state their most expensive fluid is required in CVOs because they figure folks who can afford to buy them won't balk at paying more for fluids..the first M8 CVOs were 114 and factory filled and 'required' SYN3...now the same 114s were bumped to the non CVO touring models and no longer are factory filled with SYN3 as previously 'required'...but the 117s do...rinse and repeat when the put 120s in the CVOs and bump the 117s down to non CVOs

Default 75w -140

Been using Spectro Platinum oils in all my Harleys for years. No issues. That and Red Line are great oils. Spectro oil is used by the mechanics at my local Harley dealership. You can't go wrong using Spectro oils..
