Another Oil Thread....Don't Kill Me
What I am trying to see is there really any difference between Brands of oil in the same weight? So I use 20w50 Synthetic oil in my Fat Boy...Is there really any difference between Redline, Royal Purple, Lucas, Amsoil or any other brand of Motorcycle oil?
Just curious

See this is where I get lost I know the name brands I listed and they aren't cheap, But what about Like Brad Penn or Quicksilver sold by Wal-Mart and made by Mercury Marine as well as others?
If they are all certified shouldn't they all work the same and offer the same protection?

The quick silver seems as good as anything else I've used up to this point. Seems like good oil put out by a well known company and its relatively cheap and usually readily available...unless someone else that knows better beats you to it that day.

The answer to your two part question is a two part answer. 1) There isn’t much difference between the oils you mentioned or any other full synthetic in the proper weight. 2) There is a difference between the oils you mentioned and “any other motorcycle oil.” It’s all about additive package. Some are designed to work with wet clutches for example. A Harley doesn’t need that. The most important factors for a Harley are lubrication and cooling. The full synthetic V Twin oils definitely help your Harley run cooler than conventional oils and are more resistant to thermal breakdown in extreme conditions. Like jpowell490 said. Depends on your riding conditions. If you ride in heavy traffic in hot weather you definitely want a good full synthetic V Twin oil.

Pretty simple Just read the specs for your oils.
Look at PSI, three ball bearing test .
Get an education on it then you will not be a sparrow in the wind.
Other then that just buy it cause everyone said you should........which is all that will happen here anyway.

I used it for my last 2 changes. I can pick up a gallon of it at Wallyworld for around $24-$28. I have used redline and royal purple in the past but 2 quarts of each cost almost double the quicksilver. Just wondering if the price is worth it.
