Default Shovelhead nosecone oiling question

I had my cam cover (nosecone) off and was inspecting it and studying the oil passage that feeds the crankshaft pinion shaft bushing and noticed how that gallery continued past the bushing casting to the other side of the cover and almost appeared to be a small plug on that side accessible from the outside (?)
Why did they extend the gallery past the bushing casting in the nosecone over to the other side of the cover and not just stop the gallery at the bushing?
Just curious

not sure of the area you are talking about but on my 1974 fxe, i had to peen some of the plugs shut since they leaked, these are rifle drilled holes. hd makes the cast and then drills the holes most convenient to the process and then welds shut the un-used end. picture would help.
