Don`t waste money on synthetic in the primary on your `05, just use 20w50, or automatic transmission fluid.

Or Bel Ray or even HD Formula+ or any number of other products. It really isn’t that critical and yes, I agree, synthetic is completely unnecessary. I prefer to run primary chaincase oil in my primary and gear lube in my trans instead of engine oil just because I can. If I rode a Jap bike I wouldn’t have that luxury. Right now I have Formula + in my primary but I plan to switch back to Bel Ray next time.

As with any oil debate, there is a risk of getting bogged down here! H-D Formula+ is just fine. I've never used engine oil in the primary, except in a Shovel, years back.
