Suggestion for alleviation - `10 FLHTCUSE5 losing oil on right side
I've only had a CVO Ultra SE-110 c.i. motor since late-June, as the replacement for a `10 FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic with a 103 c.i. motor, which was run over by a deer in Maine.
In the relatively short period that I've had On my return trip form the East Coast, I discovered that oil had been misting or spraying along the right side of the motor, covering the exhaust shields and all the way along the pipes, the side cover, and up onto the right side of the passenger rest. One quart was added over the course of the 3,485-mile trip to the West Coast; added only when the oil was measured tp be at or below the 1/4 marking on the dipstick while on the side--stand. I'd fill it only to the 1/2 mark, by adding only 8 oz. of oil at a time.
The oil was changed in all 3 holes after this, along with a new oil filter and crankcase breather in the front rocker cover. On a subsequent 4,280-mile round trip to Sturgis, it continued to lose 1 3/4 quarts of oil in the same fashion, again replaced 8 oz at a time, when it was down to 1/4 on the dipstick.
Yes, I understand that some Tin Cam motors lose more oil from the overflow in to the air cleaner base, and that there are upgraded crankcase breather filters to address this issue. In 3 1/2 years, my Ultra Classic never lost so much as a droplet of oil like this. I would appreciate it, should anyone have information and fixes concerning this.
