Hi guys,
I have this Dyna FXDC 2010 which I bought back 8 years ago and up until last year I have performed the engine oil change myself each year. I took my bike to a garage last year to perform a few other verification and the mechanic replaced my HD oil filter with a generic one. Anyway, long story short, my oil change was due and when I tried to remove the oil filter over the weekend the HD oil filter wrench wouldn't stick to the filter and after a few try it even dented the filter. Once dented, I tried to use a generic oil filter wrench for cars, the one with a loop and a handle, and it failed miserably. From there it just got worse and worse, I even tried the screwdriver tip to try to move the filter a little bit but to no avail. The filter now a wreck I managed to cut what was left of it but I am still unable to move the filter or what is left of it (see picture). Only the back plate of the filter is present now I only want it to move so I can replace it with a new filter. Any idea on how I can remove it? Would it be possible that the filter stuck to the bolt up to the point that it wouldn't even move at all?

What a mess! Sorry for your pain!

Can you get a steel rod from the front of the bike and place the rod on the outside edge or lip of the filter and tap on it using the rod like a punch and trying to spin the filter with the hammer and rod? Again with tapping only on the rod to get the filter to start loosening? Steady taps but not too hard. Kind of like trying to remove a large flange nut.... Maybe a chisel point to bite into the edge of the filter will work, again carefully, staying away from the oil filter mounting surface

Maybe the rod can get positioned on one of the edges of those 8 holes and tap away slowly and carefully...YD

 

On the bright side, you got a good look at what was on the inside of your filter!

 

If there is room, large channel locks may be able to get a bite on the filters base. They work for me when my auto filters get a bit to tight.

 

Maybe a long blunt chisel and a hammer going in from the front of the scooter ... Starting at the 6 o'clock position ... I've done something similar with success.

 

I expected more oil mess. I'd make a tool with a couple small bolts to land in the holes available in the filter base. Sorta like the tool that comes with a grinder to tighten cutoff wheels down.

Sounds like your guy didn't grease the filter gasket or he overtightened the the filter. Try what cdonis said or try placing a flat metal bar against the edge of one of the filter holes and bang on it. Maybe you can jar it loose.
