Let`s call it what it is, the waste a quart oil change.

The old oil is not contaminated, unless your engine is dying.

If you waste a quart at every oil change (assuming a 5000 mile interval), at 5 bucks a quart you will be wasting 100 dollars (plus the cost of the gizmo) over a 100,000 mile stretch, with absolutely no benefit.

Well, there is a benefit...to the people who make money selling them, and the people who con their customers into thinking that they need to waste a quart of oil at every change.

My last few oil changes have been done using the rogue choppers system. It's easy to use and doesn't take that much extra time. I don't mind throwing away $5 worth of oil if it's going to be better for my bike, having said that, I'm no engineer so I've got no idea if it actually makes a difference or not. But it does seem to satisfy my ocd side!!

I took a brief look at this scavenging idea but, I use synthetic oil and change every 3000 mi and just figured enough is enough. My drained oil still looks pretty clean so I'm really just changing to keep the additives package reasonably up to spec.

If I were to suffer a massive stroke and start going the extended change interval route, I'd probably want to scavenge.

Seriously though, IMO if you follow the frequent change intervals recommended in your manual you've really got all your potential oil related ills covered. Anything else you elect to do is exercising your personal choice to chase diminishing returns.
