5 Quart Oil Change

5 Quart Oil Change
I've heard of a 5 quart oil change method that gets most of the old oilout during a change. From what I understand, the filter is left off while the new oil is put in the tank, the bike is started until oil flowing out from the filter holes turns clean. Then the oil gets topped off after the filter gets put on. (I think this is how it's done)
Has anyone done this on a Street Glide and does the oil shoot out of the filter holes and make a mess or can you catch it with a cup? Is there any risk with lack of circulation of engine oil during this process?
I would like to convert to synthetic. Even though regular oil will mix with syn, I still want to get as much of it out as possible.

RE: 5 Quart Oil Change
I like getting all the old oil out too...over half a quart in my Evo! What kind of engine do you have? The Evolution engine runs oil thru the motor first and then the filter, so you can do what you described. The Twin Cam engine runs the oil thru the filter first so what you describe is a no no....there is a scavenging system available for purchaseto make it possible to do on Twin Cam engines.
The oil runs out of the filter housing and does make a little mess but not that bad...just make sure you haveyouroil catch containerunder it and wipe or wash the motor/frame off when finished. You canput some old news papers on the floor around your oil catch container to save any possible oil mess on the floor.

Here is the site for the scavenger system. Clean way of replacing the oil and to get rid of the contaminated oil. Looks to be a nice way to do it. I just ordered one yesterday.
