Default Topping off trans oil.

I changed my clutch cable on my '08 Softail. I reused the tranny oil that was in the bike cause it only has about 1000 miles on it. I need to add a bit but not sure what I can mix with the Formula+ thats in there. I have some GL-5 80W-90 and synthetic sitting around. Can I top off the trans with any of these? I still don't know what weight the Formula+ is.

Shoulda put the scoot up on 2x4's and you wouldn't have had to top it off cuz you wouldn't have lost any. If it were me, I'd have put something good back in like Redline or Amsoil or Mobil1

Go to autozone and get a quart of mobil1 75w90 gear oil and replace it and run that 15,000-20,000 miles. If you are really on a tight budget get some valvoline dino 75w90 or 80w90 gear oil for $4 and run that 10-15,000. The HD formula plus ia a 50w dino oil with a very minimal additive package that is way overpriced. Your trans will thank you because for the price of some 50w you can get gear oil. Opps didn't see you had gear oil. Drain the formula plus and use the gear oil.

I caught all the oil its just what didn't come back out of my drain pan and a slight amount you lose in the cover and such. It's slightly above add but I like it right on the full line.

Thanks, I just needed a tad of oil. I was planning on changing to synthetic later. My 1000servicewas free and I'm old school and didn't want to waste perfectly good oil.

That gear oil for a top off won't hurt anything either.
