Change Oil Filter Not Oil?
I thought I read here somewhere on the forum that someone suggested that you should only change the oil filter and top off with fresh oil rather than a complete oil change out with filter. Using synthetic (Mobil 1) every 2500 miles, the writer claimed the oil was still perfectly good for another 2500 miles at least and the filter would have (should have) caught all the impurities. With synthetic oil running around $10 a quart, I am in favor of saving $40 if I can. Opinions?

Mobil1 Vtwin 20w50, Amsoil, Specto, Syn3, Redline will all go 5000 miles easily. No need to change the filter. If you are worried about it then go to Blackstone Labs website and get a sample kit and send yor oil in at 5000 miles and have it analyzed. Cost is $22. Then you will know if the oil is still good at 5000.

The though is the new HD spects filter which can catch down to 5 micron. Can do this over time. Which can tend to clog up way faster that the oil will wear out.
I for that reason change the filter, (Purelator Pure One), in my 2006 Dodge Cummings twice for every oil change.
But I'll tell you the diesel is a bunch more dirty that the Harley. All the time seems.
