What are you riding? You need to check in your owners manual, it will tell you. If you don't have the manual, finger tighten it and then about 1/2 -3/4 turn. Don't crank down on it!!!!! And then there's the idea about putting motor oil in your transmission.....

Harley's latest as of 2014 manuals is no longer SYN motor oil in all three holes. It's back to second choice for transmission and primary. Remember, the oil plugs seat metal to metal and the o-ring goes into taper for seal. Your primary may be tapered pipe which needs a sealer or teflon tape. Turn it snug and then about 1/2 turn. See attachment for MS plugs

If you're going to be doing your own maintenance then I highly recommend getting an official HD service manual. To answer your question, 14-21 ft-lbs. No need for pipe dope or Teflon tape. Inspect the o-rings, replace if needed.

Agreed = Gear oil in the tranny. You like Mobil? then 75W-90 Mobil 1. (Been in mine for over 150,000 miles now.) And agree too with snug the plug and about 1/4 turn is about all you'll need.

Ill chime in with yes, snug. Kinda like the oil filter, spin till you feel contact then hand snug. Easy to add a snug if it leaks.

13 Heritage here. Im running Mobil 1 V-twin oil in the engine and primary. Mobil 1 75-120 in the tranny. I do however use Harley's oil filter to ensure it has the proper valving/flow.

Run what brand of oil you like. I chose Mobil because I can find it at almost any Wal-Mart.
I also know guys that run Mobil 1 V-twin in their air cooled piston aircraft with good results.

What year is your bike? Engine size? Many threads on here where people take the wrong plug out.
